Enjoy a walking tour of the Village of Morris led by Dr. Cindy Falk. While the Village of Morris was incorporated in 1870, its history extends back further to a group of French refugees fleeing the Reign of Terror, who named their new home in Otsego County Louisville. The name Morris was applied later in honor of the Morris family, including Revolutionary War General Jacob Morris, the namesake of the surrounding town. Morris’s architecture spans almost two centuries from the 1790s through the 1900s. While Otsego County residents may associate Morris with the county fairgrounds, its built environment embodies a longer history. The tour will begin at the Morris Central School (65 W. Main Street, Morris, NY), built in 1932 and part of a recent project by Cooperstown Graduate Program students on depression-era schools.

Dr. Falk is professor of material culture at the Cooperstown Graduate Program.
